Penguin Experience at Chester Zoo

Our experience with the penguins gives you the chance to get closer to our colony of Humboldt penguins than ever before, leaving you with incredible memories that will last a lifetime! 

After an introductory briefing with our experts, you will then have the very special experience of feeding our penguins in the penguin habitat. You’ll also get chance to ask one of our keepers any questions you may have about these amazing birds.

By buying this gift, not only will it be an experience to remember but you will also be contributing to our conservation work both here and around the world helping to save wildlife from extinction – thank you!

Your experience:

  • Will last approximately 45 mins with approximately 20 mins spent with the animals. 
  • The chance to meet and feed our Penguins. 
  • Prepare their fishy meal in the Kitchens and help with their special requirements!
  • The opportunity to learn about these beautiful animals and ask our Keepers any questions you may have.
  • Exclusive Gift and experience certificate.
  • Zoo admission.

Terms and conditions:

  • The Experience is available for adults and children over the age of 5 years old; however children between the ages of 5 to 15 years old must be accompanied onto Penguin Island by a spectating adult paying normal zoo admission (1 adult per 1 child) (adult does not take part in the Experience, they are just there to supervise).
  • Regrettably certain guests will be unable to take part including people with epilepsy; relevant phobias or known allergies; mobility issues, pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals.
  • Whilst every effort is made to accommodate those with a disability or learning difficulty, due to practicality and health and safety this cannot always be achieved – contact Chester Zoo before purchasing.

COVID safety requirements:

  • Face masks are mandatory for all participants even those who are medically exempt. All participants MUST wear a dark coloured face mask.
  • All guests' hands must be washed/sanitised prior to starting and after an experience.
  • All guests within proximity to our animals must also wear protective gloves which shall be provided.
  • Social distancing must always be adhered to by guests when in proximity of staff and other guests.
  • Limited capacities have been introduced to all experiences to ensure social distancing can be maintained for the safety of our animals, visitors and staff.
  • Unfortunately the keepers will be unable to take photographs for you during the experience with your own devices, but when the keepers say it is safe to do so you are more than welcome to take some yourself.
